Baltimore, MD, February 21, 2017 – Harpoon Medical, Inc., a clinical stage medical device company focused on the development and commercialization of transcatheter beating heart mitral valve repair technology, announced today that the company has hired Laura Brenton to serve as Vice President of Clinical Affairs.  Laura will lead Harpoon Medical’s clinical program. She brings more than 25 years of clinical research experience with the last decade focused in the structural heart space to the Harpoon team.

“We are very happy to have Laura join our team to run the company’s clinical program,” said Bill Niland, CEO of Harpoon Medical.  “She joined Symetis in 2009 and was instrumental in securing multiple CE Mark approvals for the company’s second generation TAVR device.  The knowledge and experience Laura gained during her time at Symetis, Boston Scientific and with numerous other medical device companies will be instrumental as she helps Harpoon transition from a clinical stage company to a commercial organization.”

“I am extremely excited to join Harpoon Medical,” Laura Brenton said.  “I have spent most of my career in clinical research and have had the opportunity to work with some very exciting technologies.  I am drawn to medical devices that are both easy to use and have the potential to change clinical practice.  After attending a Harpoon case and meeting the team I knew this was the right opportunity for me.  I look forward to helping the company secure CE Mark and expand its clinical program in Europe, the United States and beyond.”

Dr. James Gammie, inventor of the Harpoon technology and the company’s Chief Medical Officer said that, “Harpoon Medical is dedicated to advancing the field of minimally-invasive, beating-heart mitral valve repair through cutting edge technological innovations and rigorous clinical research.  Adding Laura to the team to oversee the clinical program will allow the company build on the strong foundation of clinical research that has been developed to date.  I look forward to working with her and the rest of the team as we embark on additional clinical studies in Europe and a pivotal IDE study in the United States.”
